Growing up in Ecuador, I was practiced in creating traditional native sculptures, such as año viejo, with my family. This way of creating art has been passed down through generations. Now, from the way I mix colors to the way I put marks on a page, I represent my culture and my roots in the art I make. As an afro-latina immigrant studying for my BFA in Illustration at the Massachusetts College of Art & Design in Boston, MA, I continue to use this ancestral voice in my creative work.
